Gregory A.M. Brown is a full service architectural, construction and business consulting firm with a long standing reputation for excellence in design, sustainability, and constructible solutions. We provide the combination of both ends of the spectrum – design awards with functional and pragmatic design solutions built from solid contract documents and expert support for our projects.

The Owner / Architect / Contractor – unlike most practitioners, we have considerable experience in all three of these arenas. We have built projects as the owner’s representative – hiring and managing the architect and the project team. We have extensive experience as architects providing design and comprehensive project management on complex facilities. Perhaps most importantly, we have many years of construction experience and practical knowledge of the building trades – in fact in addition to being a licensed architect in numerous states, Gregory A.M. Brown is also a licensed General Contractor.

Upon graduation from Arizona State University’s College of Architecture and Environmental Design, Gregory A.M. Brown joined a start-up architectural firm in Phoenix, AZ – Roberts | Jones Associates, Inc. and within a year was on the board of directors of this firm. After years of practice in Arizona’s harsh desert climate primarily in the private sector, Greg moved to CA five years later to start a family and joined Harris & Associates, Inc. a construction management and civil engineering firm. Greg was asked to start and run a new architectural division for Harris & Associates and this practice specialized in public sector work with some private sector work. Greg was asked to join the senior management transition team for Harris & Associates, but elected  to found his own firm called Artech Design Group, Inc. in Walnut Creek, CA. Artech Design Group serviced the public and private sectors and was routinely retained as experts in construction to assist in claims, arbitration and other construction related disputes.

Artech Design Group was listed as the 12th Fastest Growing Private Company in the San Francisco East Bay by the Contra Costa – Tri Valley Business Times.  Artech Design Group was listed by the Contra Costa – Tri Valley Business Times as the 10th Largest Architectural Firm in the East Bay based on revenue which includes Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. Artech Design Group positioned itself as one of the primary architectural and construction consulting firms in the Bay Area within five years of having been founded.

San Francisco Business Times named Artech Design Group as the 22nd Fastest Growing Private Company in the Bay Area. Greg converted his practice from Artech Design Group, Inc. to Gregory A.M. Brown, Architects | Builders | Consultants to address the broader range of construction and business consulting services being utilized by our clients.

Design Philosophy

I never focus on a particular style of architecture; instead, I work organically toward a design solution that considers the natural elements of the site while incorporating the project requirements.

In all of my work, I look to natural light, and the unique characteristics of materials to guide the creation of environments that are both comfortable and inspiring.

I strive for innovative approaches to integrating the man-made structures into the site while the sustainability aspects of the building consider solar orientation, placement, materials, building systems, natural lighting, screening, ventilation, wind and solar options as well as water preservation.

The goal is simple –

“…structures that rise from their setting so naturally that it appears they have grown from the site rather than being constructed upon it…”

Experience

Gregory A.M. Brown offers a team with an unusually broad range of experience and specialized expertise in design and team management. Our services extend beyond traditional comprehensive architectural services into areas of specialized review and consulting for public agencies and the legal community.

Our project scope ranges from minor remodeling, to comprehensive project management, design and construction services. Further, we have become more involved in construction related design issues and designed, patented and marketed a series or new award-winning drywall anchors that are nationally distributed. 

The businesses Greg has started and/or managed include: architectural, A/E and construction management, software, consumer products and advanced technology companies. 

Greg developed and utilized software applications he initially created to optimize Facility and Property Management for his clients into what evolved into an independent 90 person software company with customers like Time Warner, Cisco, large property management companies, public agencies and others using the software. 

Business consulting includes business start-up, business management, business performance analysis, development of sales and marketing programs, fund raising (venture capital and strategic capital) and strategic partner relationships. Greg has developed a comprehensive series of classes and workshops focused on development of an effective and balanced sales and marketing effort. THE RAINMAKER PROGRAM™ evaluates a firm’s existing Sales and Marketing program and the series of classes and workshops are tailored to identifying and developing weak performance areas and identifying new markets or untapped existing markets and how to access these markets to increase sales and revenue, reduce risk, load balance the sources of work for a company and teach staff that should be selling – to sell effectively.
